This charming English-owned bed and breakfast accommodation is situated in the village of La Motte-Ternant just South of junction 23 of the A6 autoroute, midway between Auxerre and Dijon in Burgundy. The village is on the edge of the beautiful Morvan Park a land of rivers, lakes and forests, a land of Celtic mythology, a land of history. This spacious and elegant merchant's house, built in1872, has been tastefully renovated by the present owners. Here, you will find lovely interiors combined with English family antiques and French country furniture. The bedrooms are very individual, with embroidered linen during hot summer months, warm duvets in the winter. Seasonal flower arrangements fill the rooms with scent and colour. The books and log fires contribute to the warm, friendly and comfortable atmosphere. There is a two acre garden with beautiful views of the river valley, the village church and distant hills and forests. It is a carefree haven, the perfect place to escape, relax and explore. Guests are welcome to have a leisurely game of Pétanqe (Boule) on the specially built pitch under the dappled shade of trees.

Breakfasts are served in the light and airy dining room with its idyllic views over the Serein valley, and over the garden. If you choose to have dinner it will be served in the dining room (with log fires in winter). Annemarie has a varied repertoire including traditional Burgundian fare. Vegetables and fruit are grown in their own jardin potager, eggs and dairy produce from the local farmers. Nothing is too much trouble here. She is happy to serve a warming hot chocolate at bedtime, afternoon tea and cakes on the terrace or in the elegant sitting-room, with its marble fireplace and twinkling chandelier.

Note that the owners have cats who do not welcome visiting dogs!

Previous visitor comments
My wife and I stayed at this bed and breakfast accommodation on 29th December last as arranged. It was a wonderful experience. Even though we only saw the house in the dark of winter it was most agreeable and set in lovely countryside between Auxerre and Dijon in Burgundy. Our hosts are a delightful couple who made us most welbcome. We were made to feel as if we were old friends. The room was clean and tastefully furnished as was the rest of the property. As for the meal it was haute cuisine of a very high standard with great care being taken to introduce us to some local dishes. It was a visit which we hope to repeat and we shall certainly be recommending it to our friends. - the Sanders, 2008

You asked for feedback on our return and i will gladly tell you that this delightful B&B ticked all our boxes! What a fabulous house and the welcome we received was just so fantastic, we felt as though Mr & Mrs Williams were old friends they were SO kind and made us feel so at home, nothing seemed too much trouble and our 2yr old daughter was made to feel extremely welcome and loved every minute of her stay. Our only regret was that we had not booked to stay here on our way through France a t the beginning of our holiday as our first B&B made us feel rather uncomfortable. We would highly recommend this wonderful B&B and really hope that we can return as one night was just not enough!! - the Gumbrells, 2009
